Visiting Birmingham




Birmingham has a strong industrial heritage; maybe it has not so many historical attractions or picturesque places but is home for many architectural places especially in the City centre, an important part of Birmingham that has been in much part reconstructed after the Second World War.



Birmingham also has some exceptional shopping facilities whit its three main shopping arcades near to the Victory Square. The principal shopping streets are New Street, High Street and Corporation Street. In the city you will find also the famous “balti”, it is offered in many restaurants especially in the zone of Speakbrook.
For day trips, the towns of the Cotswolds, Bath and Cheltenham are ideal destinations. If you like the small villages and small independent shops, you should visit Painswick, Winchcombe and Biddestone.




Aston Hall


A beautiful and historic 400 year old building, the Aston Hall stands next to Aston Villa FC. It is owned by the Birmingham City Council and is one of the largest and oldest of the community museums. The layout of rooms is largely untouched, and the house still has many early 17th century ornamental features in wood, stone and plaster.




Sarahole Mill


Sarahole Mill was built in 1765 on the site of Biddle's Mill and is one of the two surviving watermills in Birmingham. It was first built as a corn-grinding mill but it served also for rolling sheet metal and wire rolling. This historic place was used also as the setting for author J.R.R. Tolkien’s famed book “The Hobbit” Its structure shows the transform of the industry through the centuries.





Warwick Castle


Warwick Castle is one of the finest medieval castles in Europe, is located above the river Avon town showing an exceptional structure. Its interior was completely rebuilt during the 17th century but it still keeps a thousand years of legend, secrets and wonderful stories. Its main sights are the State Rooms, the Royal Weekend Party, the torture chamber among others. Don’t miss the medieval banquets which are available on Friday and Saturday.



Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery


The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is located in the Chamberlain Square and is home for some of the finest pieces of Pre-Raphaelite art. The Gas Hall of the museum has a notable programme of events. Try to visit carefully every gallery in the museum; there are an eclectic collection including silver and sculptures, paintings, precious stones and a diverse collection of archaeological material.



Cadbury World


Cadbury World is a factory of chocolate owned by the Cadbury brothers and located at Bournville. Visiting Cadbury is getting into the history of chocolate in Europe, the tourist will learn about how the cocoa beans are transformed in delicious chocolate. There is also a good factory shop where visitors can acquire many Cadbury products at factory prices.
